Simultaneous Storytime

Year 1 celebrated 2019’s National Simultaneous Storytime with a trip to the Glenorchy LINC.

National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event in which a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, educational facilities, childcare centres, family homes, book stores and many other places across Australia.

National Simultaneous Storytime is an event that celebrates:

  • The value of reading and literacy.
  • The importance and enjoyment of reading.
  • Highlights Australian authors and illustrators.
  • Promotion of reading activities in libraries and communities across Australia.
  • Providing opportunities for students of all ages to join in with community reading.

Year 1 travelled to the Glenorchy LINC to participate in a shared reading of this year’s title, Alpacas with Maracas. Written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove. This book is about Macca and his pal Al, who enter a talent contest. Year 1 were able to listen to the book with students from a host of other schools.

This year the story was read by a special guest, Leanne McLean, who is the Commissioner for Children and Young People. We then worked to make our own maracas out of paper cups.

We were able to decorate these and turn them into maracas we can use! Year 1 really enjoyed the experience of sharing reading with students from around the wider community.
