Year 9 Students鈥 Super Sushi Skills: Savour the sushi
Year 9 Japanese elective students welcomed a guest chef to their class to teach them to make authentic sushi.
Guest chef, Toshi-san, entertained us with his demonstration and accompanying music before giving everyone a chance to roll their own maki-zushi.
With much nervousness and a strong desire to create sushi perfection, students concentrated hard in the quest to achieve their goal. Toshi-san was always on-hand, ready to assist and advise the correct rolling style and where to push to secure the nori (seaweed).
Gohan kudasai
Not only were Year 9鈥檚 sushi rolling skills on show, but also their Japanese communication skills. 鈥淕ohan kudasai鈥 (Rice please) and 鈥淚tadakimasu鈥 鈥 said before eating 鈥 could be heard around the room as they prepared their meal.
Oishii!
The verdict? 鈥淥ishii desu鈥 (It鈥檚 delicious!). Everyone was very impressed with their sushi and feasted happily on their rolls, not forgetting a heart-felt 鈥渁rigatou gozaimasu鈥 (thank you) to our guest chef, before heading off to their next lesson.
