Farewell to our 2019 Year 10 Students

Congratulations to our Year 10 Class of 2019 who last week finished their compulsory secondary education at É«ÇéÖ±²¥.

At their Graduation Mass our wonderful Year 10 students officially became Old Scholars and had the opportunity to reflect on and celebrate their time together as a year group of friends and learners. As a school in the Salesian tradition, we are called to make É«ÇéÖ±²¥ a community where everyone feels like they belong and we use the guidance of the Charter for Salesian Schools of Australia to help us be: a home that welcomes, a parish that evangelises, a school that prepares for life and a playground where friends meet and enjoy themselves. To achieve this aim, everyone in the community must embrace and live out the Charter, and the Year 10 Class of 2019 have most certainly achieved this by leaps and bounds.

Throughout 2019, Year 10 have contributed to É«ÇéÖ±²¥ being a home that welcomes through the strong friendships that were formed with each other, their younger peers and teachers based on genuine care and affection. The introduction of the overnight Year 10 Retreat saw each young person continue to nurture positive relationships with their peers and teachers. A particular commendation to our College Captains Lachlan Rowlands and Maddison Cockerill and Vice Captains Thomas Atkinson and Ella Fitzpatrick on working together to provide opportunities for our students and staff to make Dominic a truly welcoming and safe learning environment each day.

Our Year 10s have helped the College be a parish that evangelises through their involvement in Mission activities, whole College Mass celebrations, Feast Days, Retreat Programs and sacramental encounters. They celebrated their Graduation at St John’s Parish with a final Mass with their teachers, family and friends - the final and most significant event during their time at Dominic. They have raised the bar in terms of leading our school community in becoming more active participants at Masses and Liturgies. The Year 10s successfully demonstrated that Dominic is a school that prepares for life by actively taking part in learning each and every day, and involving themselves in a wide range of co-curricular activities to help prepare them for the challenges that life throws at them. The students have undertaken their final exams with maturity and diligence, to prepare them for the road ahead at College, University and beyond. Finally, all Year 10 students have been part of a playground where friends meet and enjoy themselves shown through various celebrations and festivities this year such as the Year 10 Retreat, the Relay for Life, Community Feast Days and College Fair, to name a few. Once again, Mental Health Week was supported by so many students in Year 10, with many students leading sessions to support their friends in becoming more resilient and look after each other’s wellbeing. They have all tried to make 2019 class time and playground time safe and welcoming for all.

We congratulate the Year 10 Class of 2019 on officially becoming Old Scholars and thank each of them for their kindness, generosity and positivity over the years. Congratulations to all students who were recognised for their outstanding achievement at our Awards Ceremony.

Year 10, may God bless each and every one of you, and may He guide you in your future pathways. Remember, you are and always will be members of our Dominic family. Always be happy and strive to be the best person you can be!
