DOSA celebrates wins in Snowy's milestone game

DOSA Football had two important wins against St Virgil's on Saturday at the TCA, making sure of their qualification for the semi-finals in reserves and seniors and making the day even more memorable for those celebrating Snowy's day.

Old scholar, Brendan "Snowy" Loveless, Class of 1990, played game number 417 for DOSA and became the Old Scholars Football Association games record-holder, eclipsing University's Bill Trethewie. Bill was able to attend and presented Brendan with a special DOSA jumper with the number 417 on the back, in which Snowy played the game.

Brendan has been playing for 25 years, begining in 1995 with just three games in his first year. He has an amazing record of captaincy, premierships, B&Fs in his time as well as resilience with overcoming broken legs and ligament surgery.

Now co-President with Mr Cameron Golding (Class of 1999), Brendan is planning on retiring at the end of the year, happy to see his son Harry going so well in the seniors side.

The seniors game was played first - thank you to St Virgil's for agreeing to the swap - and St Virgil's played well, marking beautifully and kicking straight. With a roaring wind from one end the game was close but DOSA seemed too strong through the second and third quarters. Yet St Virgil's came back and were two goals up with five minutes to go before a late flurry saved the game for DOSA. Result: DOSA 14 10 94 to St V 12 8 80.

The reserves game began at 2.30pm and a good crowd was pumped up from the close seniors finish. Bill Trethewie and Cam Golding had presented Snowy with jumper and gift voucher before the game and the banner of congratulations was unfurled for Snowy to run through.

The reserves needed to win to make sure of their semis qualification but were bolstered by the return from injury of several players including Cam Golding and seniors regulars Damo Curtain and Sam Peacock.

Michael Robinson was playing game number 250 and although his celebrations were overshadowed by Snowy's milestone, he nevertheless kicked a massive six goals and DOSA were too strong throughout the game winning 12 19 91 to St V 5 9 39.

Next week DOSA are away to OHA before concluding the roster with a bye. Semi-finals are on at the TCA on Saturday 19 September.
