The Old Scholars Football competition kicks off this weekend and the Roosters hold high hopes of a very successful season.
Tomorrow we celebrate Matt Fielding’s 150th game against Hutchins at Queenborough.
Off the field the club has worked hard on its recruitment and has appointed father/son recruit Jake Briggs as senior coach. Jake is the son of the former DOSA hard-man Anthony Briggs who played 149 games for the Roosters in the 80-90s.
Our assistant coaches this year are Caden Wilson, a Dominic old scholar who is a former William Leitch medallist and premiership player in both the TSL and SFL and Michael Fisher who returns to the club after a successful year in the TSL. Michael won both the OSFA and Roosters B&F in 2016.
We are also lucky to have 2013 Senior Premiership Coach Justin O’Brien returning to us after a few years at TSL level, while last year’s Senior Coach Justin Veitch is also excited to go around again.
Gareth Delaney continues to recover from knee surgery at the end of last year, but we are hopeful that he will be able to make a contribution later in the season.
We are joined by young guns Jack Guesdon and Sam Fros from Hobart City, while ruckman Mitch Reeve (our reigning Senior best and fairest winner) will look to impose himself on the competition again this year.
Our senior captain this year is Sam Peacock and his vice-captain is Aaron Parker. Our Reserves coach is Aaron Davey and Michael Pace will captain the reserves side.
We are also excited to note that we have entered into a formal agreement this year with É«ÇéÖ±²¥ which sees us sporting the College Crest on the chest of our new jumpers, whilst also developing our links with the School and helping develop players in their school football teams.
The TCA has just been resurfaced and we are eager to play our home games on a new deck this year.
THIS WEEKEND
Get along to Queenborough. Reserves start at 11.30am and the Seniors at 2pm.
