Catholic Education Week 2019

This Sunday, 19 March, marks the commencement of Catholic Education Week in Tasmania.

Next week is designated as a time to celebrate the achievements of Catholic schools. In particular for us, it is a time to honour the great educational legacy provided to us by the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Dominican Sisters who together, had the vision to establish É«ÇéÖ±²¥ as the first coeducational Catholic secondary school in southern Tasmania in 1973.

I want to pay particular tribute to our students, staff and parents, past and present, who continue to contribute to the ongoing success of Dominic as a leader in authentic educational endeavor as a Catholic faith community.

I was pleased to be able to represent the College and join other Catholic School Principals on Wednesday evening at the launch of Catholic Education Week at Parliament House.

It was good to catch up with the State Premier and the Attorney General who spoke highly to Mr Hodgeman of the Arts programs being delivered at É«ÇéÖ±²¥.

To mark this special week, all members of the College community are invited to join with our local St John’s Parish in Glenorchy led by Fr Guy Riolo SDB, to mark Catholic Education Week at the 10.00 am Mass on this Sunday.

Our International Women’s Day Breakfast success

Last week’s International Women’s Day Breakfast was an excellent opportunity to celebrate the achievements of girls and women and to stand in solidarity with those not accessing their right to an education. This annual community gathering sparks lovely feedback to us from visitors to the College:

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the Women’s Day Breakfast and was blessed to have witnessed the heartfelt input from all presenters. Your student representatives indeed were a wonderful example of É«ÇéÖ±²¥ and the essence of beautiful parenting and education alike.

Thank you for another inspirational Women’s Day Breakfast. Your students did you proud. Have to say, my favourite bit was the musical item which I just loved!

Thank you very much again for inviting me to this morning’s IWD breakfast. It was a fantastic event, a real credit to you.
